About Rafting Escapes

Real River Advice. Tested Gear. Safety First.

Who We Are

Rafting Escapes started because finding trustworthy whitewater advice online is harder than it should be.

Too many sites are just travel brochures in disguise. Too many “gear reviews” recommend life jackets they’ve never even gotten wet. And too many guides gloss over the safety details you actually need to know.

We built Rafting Escapes to fix that.

Today, we’re a team of rafters, river guides, and one very detail-obsessed editor (that’s me) focused on one thing: giving you rafting advice and gear recommendations you can trust with your life.

Meet the Team

Alfredo Ramses — Founder & Lead Editor

Alfredo Ramses Rafting Escapes Founder
I’ve spent over a decade chasing rapids and analyzing river gear. I won’t claim to have conquered every Class V—but I might be the best at figuring out which rafts, PFDs, and paddles are worth your money and which are just good marketing.

I lead the editorial process, oversee every review, and personally write or edit most of what you read here. If a piece of safety gear or a destination guide makes it onto Rafting Escapes, it’s because I’m confident it meets our standards.

Our Network of River Testers

We work with a small network of experienced river guides and whitewater enthusiasts. They paddle the big water. They test durability on sharp rocks. They tell us what inflatables hold up and what pumps fail when you need them most.

Their field notes, combined with our analysis of safety specs and user reviews, form the backbone of every recommendation we make.

How We Work

Our Review Process

We don’t just copy the manufacturer’s specs. Here’s what actually goes into our recommendations:

  1. Deep Research — We analyze materials (Hypalon vs PVC), safety ratings, and read hundreds of user reviews across forums and retailer sites.
  2. River Testing — Our network tests the gear on actual rivers. Not a swimming pool—real currents, real rapids, real conditions.
  3. Safety-First Evaluation — We score products on what matters most: buoyancy, durability, safety features, and performance under pressure.
  4. The “Anti-Sell” — Every product we recommend comes with its honest flaws. No raft or kayak is perfect, and you need to know the limitations before you push off.

Editorial Independence

We participate in affiliate programs (including Amazon Associates), which means we may earn a commission if you buy through our links.

But here’s what that doesn’t mean: no brand pays for placement. Our recommendations are based on performance and safety. If a PFD is uncomfortable or unsafe, we say so—even if it would make us money to stay quiet.

Our Mission

Cut through the noise. Give rafters clear, honest answers about gear and destinations. Help you spend less time researching and more time on the river.

That’s it. No corporate mission statement. Just useful content for people who love the water.
